Chinese Scientists Develop Hypersonic Generator with Potential Military Applications

Researchers in China have developed a hypersonic generator that could power military weapons, including lasers, rail guns, and microwave weapons. The compact nature of the generator allows for a variety of potential uses. A single controlled detonation inside a shock tunnel is enough to turn hot gas into a plasma filled with racing ions, which then convert to current.

With the use of magnetohydrodynamics generators, the system produces electric current up to 212 kilowatts while using just .26 gallons of gas, enough for a burst of energy unlike anything available now. The system has no rotating parts, which increases efficiency and ease of use. While China has not yet deployed the new system, it has significant potential for use in hypersonic weapons.
