Twitter has introduced a new program that allows users to offer their followers paid subscriptions for content. This is believed to be a new version of the platform's previous monetized subscription tool, "Super Follows." The new program called "Subscriptions," is similar to Super Follows in that it enables users to access subscription-only content.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced that for the next year, the company will not keep any money from the program. Instead, creators will receive the entirety of the subscription cost, which varies depending on whether it is mobile or web. Musk stated that Twitter aims to promote creators' work and maximize their prosperity. Furthermore, creators are free to leave the platform at any time with their content.
To offer subscriptions, users can set a monthly price of $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99. When someone pays for access to a subscription offering, the creator can earn up to 97% of the revenue that Twitter has earned from the payment, minus in-app purchase fees. This percentage changes to 80% after the creator has earned $50,000 in lifetime earnings.
Twitter's "Super Follows" page now directs users to the "Subscriptions" page, indicating that the company has replaced its previous monetized subscription tool with the new program.
